All Black : " Hovering Moment "
---
"...it was so hard to prefect..." I did everything to ensure that I captured the bee freezed hovering in midair flight and follow all the photography composition but it was so hard to get a prefect shoot even I just waste a lot of frame from time to time I click the shutter.. It is very difficult to predict even match the speed of the bee.
Book Guideline said leave more room in front than behind, a well-known guideline for animals that are looking left or right or toward is that we leave plenty of space in front of the animal for it to look into but I fail to practice it here.
-------
Photo composition is the foundation upon which we build our photo images by the correct selection, arranging, organizing and combining the visual elements within the photo area to produce a harmonious and pleasing photograph. The rules of photo composition are for guidance only, not for absolute and complete obedience by photographers. No picture was ever made by rules alone, since photo composition involves our personal tastes and preferences. Our natural instincts are worth more in photography than many rigid rules. However, we must know the rules before we can break them and only break them when we have a good reason to do it.

Chaos - Simplicity versus Complexity
| Quote: | | April 30th & May 1st it's a public holiday and planning to do outdoor shoot at Sabak Bernam and Teluk Intan but by the end need to call off all the planning and stay at home due to N.A.N.A caught by high fever. Managed to escape for a while, grab a camera then run to stream infront of in-laws house, what I got just one bird called "Wak-Wak". It a bird again. |
Chaos is a disordered state of elements that can be founded frequently in nature. A guideline for a better photographic composition always emphasize simplicity on our final photo. Many of photographer's goal is to take a photo that show direct to subject by removing unessential elements. But beyond a certain point an image that is too simple fails to hold ones attention. Some suggesation is try to leaves enough chaos within the frame of the image so the viewer has to put forth some effort to explore and fully appreciate the image.
There is a "book rule guideline" - Subject should face the camera but what I did I break the rule due to the way of the bird head looking for something. It gives the bird some direction to look after on the chaostic water plant as a main surrounding elements. The second reason is there is the only direction always the bird give to me before she fly away.

Inside Yellow Frame : Pavo Cristatus @ Peacock
Photographing this Peacock with lens wide open to blurs the distracting background so its no longer distracting and the limited depth of field plus 'bad bokeh' is adequate to cover the subject on profile, yet direct the viewer's eye to the subject first then lead out from the subject at the end.
" To get good nature shots, you have to understand your subject, do your research and be patient in the field " - Graeme Guy, Founder of Nature Photographic Society, Singapore.
" There are a number of elements that make a nature photograph stand out and colour is one of the medium and nothing pleases the eye more than some highly-saturated colours in pleasant harmony within an image " - Graeme Guy, Founder of Nature Photographic Society, Singapore.
My interpretation based on an article by Graeme Guy is to attract and hold attention of the eyes, a nature composition should have an entry point, an exit point, elements that attract the eyes and balance between the elements. The photographer needs to take care any elements fall in the composition to avoid drawing the viewer away from the main subject too quickly. We do need also to provide the eye away out of the photograph by offering a pathway. If the viewer's eye locks on to a single spot it feels trapped.Such example is like a portrait of an animal that fills the frame might be the eyes, texture or the colour as a path we enter then might be a curve or diagonally on its face or body or significantly out of focus, blurs or bokeh effect at the background that points us to the edge and lead us out.

AF Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6G - A Test Shot
" Schedule is still tight but cannot refuse to get a cheap zoom lense at price of RM350 "
Verdict : Generaly, it's a good product with a very affordable price. The performance at 300mm is not so great, in fact it's slightly poor sharpness. Sharpness is great up until 200mm and then fall off very slowy until 300mm and it's also dependant on the amount of available light. Yes it's a little slow and yes it's made out of plactic and other will laugh at us "cheap looking lens", but then again what do you expect at the price of RM350.

Dark Background - "It's A Failed Experiment"
" Yellow Is Nikon "
Exposured at f4.5, 1/500 and ISO320 with Focal Length of 70mm
Subject : N.A.N.A is back in action and happy 1st birthday to you from Ayah & Ibu on April 8.
Experiment : When taking photos, we are concentrate intently on our subject, but what about the background?. The background is cover either area at the back of the main subject and also side area of the subject where some publications people called it as a "negative space" for them to add some write-up or other caption. To make the main subject is stand out we need to make the background is blur or totally dark.
Theory : Wide aperture, fast shutter speed plus bright flash normally will make the background is blurred or completely black. With the use of fast shutter speed making less or almost none of ambient light to lit the background thus it will make the background dark.
Verdict : It's a failed on my experiment. Any ideas to improve or correct it?
